North Woods Walkabout
Published in Paperback by Butterfly & Wheel Publishing (November, 1998)
Average review score:

North Woods WalkaboutA profound and wonderful book about life and the north woods of Maine. Nan Turner Waldron writes with the ease of one who has spent childhood summers on a farm in the north woods of Maine and these summers are what sparked her passionate and active works as a conservationist, naturalist, birdwatcher and nature photographer. It is a brave and courageous account of one womans journey to herself. This book is a must read! Another must read is Ms. Waldron's Journey To The Outermost House also on Amazon!

North Woods Wildflowers
Published in Paperback by Falcon Publishing Company (April, 2001)
Average review score:

Nice photos, Good Format, Great textThis book is attractive and easy to use, but its astounding aspect is high technical quality of the text. The author clearly knows the plants of these great north country forests and meadows. While I could get lost in technical terms such as calyx lobes and corollas, its worth the trips to the glossary in back. At times, the "Habitat/Range" and "Comments" text reminds me of some of the great botanical works of a century ago. If you are looking for a general guide with the technical power to challenge and support field identifications, this book has no equal for these beautiful woods. If only for those flies and mosquitos of summer...

North Woods Wilflower Guide
Published in Ring-bound by North Woods Ent. (01 January, 2001)
Average review score:

A New Educational ToolFrom an educator's perspective the Northwoods Field Guides are an excellent ancillary tool at all great levels. They are appropriate for introductory use as well as through adult level review and education. I have the wildflower and animal tracks guides and am looking forward to completing the set with other tags currently available. My only question now is, when are we going to find more topics?

Northwoods Cradle Song: From a Menominee Lullaby
Published in Paperback by Aladdin Library (August, 1998)
Average review score:

A Beautiful Bedtime BookIn Northwoods Cradle Song, a person can find three things that make a book especially appealing to me: a love and respect for nature, poetic text, and beautiful artwork. Everything works well here to create a book that is a joy to read to the children who matter in our lives.

Norwegian Rosemaling: Decorative Painting on Wood
Published in Paperback by Peter Smith Pub (June, 1984)
Average review score:

The most thorough book covering Norwegian Rosemaling! This book, although out of print, I have found to be the most thorough and informative book regarding Rosemaling in Norway. From the beginning of the way it developed in Norway, in the 1700's, to its present-day use world-wide, I found the book very interesting, with many pictures to demonstrate the information being given. As it is out-of-print, I first found it at my library and had to wait some time to be able to borrow it. As a teacher of traditional rug hooking, and not painting, I am interested in it as a way to learn (and teach) the interpretation of this art in rug hooking patterns. There is a wonderful, both in written word and pictures, description of how to form the beautiful and graceful swirls of this art. As I have had to wait each time I want to study the book again, I am attempting to purchase my own copy of this book in order to have it at my disposal when I need to check out my designs, to make sure they are proper to the area, whether Telemark or Rogaland, etc., in my interpretation of the designs. I have purchased several books on the subject of Rosemaling; none are as thorough in the description of how it evolved through the centuries, and the different main types of rosemaling still practiced, both in Norway and now throughout the world. The books I have purchased are much smaller books, teaching several types of designs for painting. None give the background information regarding how the art evolved and developed in Norway. It is in my estimate the best source of information about Norwegian Rosemaling in print.

Norwegian Wood
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (March, 2003)
Average review score:

Compelling readingThis novel ought to be produced as a film. The setting is exotic, the characters, charming, and scenes, vivid. The story satisfies a wide audience--young, mature, male, female. Chicks would love discovering a new hearthrob, Arne. Those who seek believable villians will find that Werner portrays a man of mixed emotions that pull him in two directions--tradition and utility. Quisling, Terboven, and a cast of enemy soldiers entice Werner into the only life he knows now. Haakon and a host of patriots, along with Norway's landscape, remind the villian of his roots. Veterans would find accurate, real episodes that will remind them of their own contribution to the cause of a just war.
A film is never as good as the novel. Among the pages, readers find insight, real people, and a true depiction of enemy occupation during wartime. Common laborers help restore a nation to its former glory. Everyone participates. A more benevolent leader than Haakon is difficult to imagine. Hope rules the pages, but tragedy, near-bungled missions, and betrayal add gripping elements. History and war buffs would enjoy the readable style. Must reading.

Off the Rag: Lesbians Writing on Menopause
Published in Paperback by New Victoria Pub (October, 1996)
Average review score:

Diverse, helpful, affirming, many different experiences. This book offers a full range of the often unpredictable experiences of menopause from a large and varied group of women. For lesbians, it is a dramatic departure from many other menopause books which treat this natural occurrence as something which makes us less "womanly," or something which inteferes with the sexual pleasure of a male partner. Traditional hormone replacement therapies and alternative herbal and naturopathic remedies, as well as doing nothing at all for uncomfortable symptoms are offered in these women's stories. The book encourages women to follow our own best instincts and to persevere until we get the help we need, if that's what we want.
